One thing leads to another: a new soul for recycled materials

April 18th, 2010

For anyone who still has doubts about the usefulness of separate waste collection and reclamation of waste and materials, check out our map (breakdown by materials) and examples of what we can produce from waste!

STEEL: 19,000 steel cans for conserves is enough to produce one car; 7 fifty-gram tins will make a tray; with the recycled steel from 2.6 million fifty-gram tins we can produce 1 km of rail track;

ALUMINIUM: for a car wheel rim we need 640 tins; with 150 tins we can produce a racing bike; a coffee maker needs 37… and a push scooter 130;

PAPER AND CARDBOARD: nearly 90% of Italian newspapers are printed on recycled paper; 90% of paper, paper bags and boxes come from recycled material;

PLASTIC: 27 plastic bottles is all you need to make a fleece sweatshirt; 67 mineral water bottle makes the cushioning for a double duvet; a hose can be made out of 11 milk bottles and a garden seat/bench from 45 plastic pots and a few metres of plastic film;

GLASS: with glass we have a 100% saving of raw materials: a wine bottle weighing about 350 grams can be made either from 350 g of recycled waste glass or from 420 g of traditional raw materials (sand, soda and calcium carbonate).
